Meet Caringbah Music's amazing music teachers!

Shane Koek (BMus Ed)

Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Principal/Owner


Shane Koek (Bmus Ed) has had a distinguished career as a Musician and Teacher in Sydney. Shane graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 1999, with a Bachelor of Music Education.

Shane studied Classical Guitar with Mr. Ken Burns, a renowned performer and teacher in Sydney and Spain.

Since graduating, Shane has performed in many Rock Bands, Corporate Bands, Latin Bands and Guitar and Violin Duos in a range of venues including: Sydney Townhall, ANZ Stadium, the Sydney Convention Centre, and in local pubs and clubs.

Shane has taught at many of Sydney's top schools in various roles, including; Head Teacher of Performing Arts and Head of Music.

He taught Guitar and Bass Guitar at The King's School for 6 years.

Michael Brady (M.Ed, BMus)

University of NSW
Teacher: Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano, and Rock Band


Michael is a musician who has been working as a guitarist and educator in Sydney over the past 5 years. During his studies at the University of New South Wales, he developed a great interest in Jazz performance and composition, completing an exchange semester at the Schulich School of Music (Montreal, Canada) and an Honours year in 2017.

Michael is now working regularly in an eclectic number of Sydney ensembles such as The New Young Northside Big Band, Geoff Power’s Great Gatsby Orchestra, Jackie Brown Jr., Doll Holiday, Half-Pint, etc.

He is also part of a jazz trio Brady//Donkin//Phipps, and works as a freelance guitarist.

Sol Burns

Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Teacher: Guitar and Music Production


Sol is currently studying a Bachelor of Music Studies (Contemporary music) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

He has been playing guitar (classical and contemporary) from a young age.

Sol's passion is music production, which involves writing, recording and producing his own music for the past four years.

He has performed with various bands and in solo performances at many Sydney music venues including at The Seymour Centre and in many local pubs and clubs.

  

Thomas McCorquodale (BMus: Music Education)

Sydney Conservatorium of Music
Teacher: Piano


Thomas is a graduate of a Bachelor of Music (Music Education) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and a qualified classroom music teacher K-12.

He grew up and attended school locally, completing his AMEB grades for piano at a young age. Thomas has taught classroom, co-curricular and privately at schools across Sydney. He has extensive experience as a conductor of instrumental and choral ensembles. He is also in high demand as a pianist, conductor and musical director across the community, university and on the independent musical theatre scenes. Thomas is also passionate about Argentine tango music. In 2016, he undertook masterclasses with the musicians of the Orquesta Escuela de Tango in Buenos Aires, and in 2019, he established his own quintet, Barrio Del Tango.


Hayden Koek

University of Wollongong
Teacher: Piano, Bass Guitar, Double Bass, Music Production


Hayden is a pianist, bassist. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong.

He has been playing the piano since he was 5 years old. As a teenager, Hayden became interested in the Double Bass and completed his grades with Trinity College London in both piano and double bass.

Hayden has vast performance experience for a young musician. He has performed in Orchestras, Folk Bands, Rock Bands, and Duos.

He has also worked as a session musician in the recording studio.

Hayden is currently working on many recording projects.


Cat-thy Nguyen

University of NSW
Teacher: Violin, Viola, and Piano


Cat-thy is a talented Violinist. She has extensive experience performing in string quartets and as a violinist, and has performed in various venues around Sydney.

Cat-thy is in her last year of studies at the University of NSW, where she is doing a double degree in Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Media.

She has also worked behind the scenes in organising equipment and music for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Alistair Johnston

University of NSW


Alistair is in his final year of studying for a Bachelor of Music with Honours majoring in Jazz. He tutors in primary and secondary band programs at various local schools.

Alistair has worked in many different genres, playing tenor and alto saxophone with an INXS tribute band and a Cold Chisel tribute band, performing regularly (weekly) and touring interstate for the past three years. He has also travelled to Romania and placed second in the 13th annual Bucharest Jazz Competition with his jazz quintet in 2019.
